Sydney’s parklands under threat.
The Alliance for Public Parklands (APP) launches its campaign calling on Members of the NSW Parliament to reject the Greater Sydney Parklands Exposure Bill in its current form.
At a time when the people of NSW have discovered a new appreciation of the value and importance of open green space – the NSW State Government is rushing through new legislation that will hand over control of your much loved public parklands from all over Sydney to a new agency run by the NSW Government Planning Department.
Parks under immediate threat are:
CENTENNIAL PARKLANDS
CALLAN PARK
FERNHILL ESTATE
PARRAMATTA PARK
WESTERN SYDNEY PARKLANDS
For the next three weeks, members of the public are being asked to sign an online letter to Members of Parliament to reject the Bill and instead to call for an Upper House Inquiry into the Greater Sydney Parklands Agency.
If the Greater Sydney Parklands Agency legislation is not STOPPED your parks may be victim to:
Up to 50 year leases to commercial developments including high rise hotels and business hubs
Lobby groups and developers
Disposal and surrender of Parklands to other government departments (to allow sale and development)
Drastic consequences to Western Sydney biodiversity and habitat
Communities powerless to object to over-commercialisation
The intention of the new agency, Greater Sydney Parklands is to oversee more parklands across NSW.
It could be your cherished parkland next. ADD your name to the Letter and share with your networks and on social media NOW.
